Aerial view of Hebburn Newtown School in 1950.
Near misses from bombing on 22 Oct 1941! Across Station road from Newtown school are shops.  Behind them is a vacant lot showing housing in Charles St which was bombed.  The neighbouring Council yard (off screen mid right) was also bombed with many casualties. No indication where there was room for air raid shelters and ambulance vehicles. The bombing also damaged this first aid post. Did the school re-open in WW2 with this lack of shelters & the frequent bombing? Photo and caption below: Kindness of Norman Dunn. See here.
