It was rumoured that Vince Rea held the plaque in his "Bede Gallery" at Jarrow which has been closed since 1996. However, Vince proved reclusive and would neither confirm or deny. The 7 Dec 2015 “Chronicle” said that there would be an auction of the content of the Bede Gallery on 9 Dec 2015… which includes a brass plaque from the boiler shop at Palmers shipyard, commemorating employees who died in the First World War.
NEWMP updated this information with a quote (and photo) about the result of the auction:
“It was purchased by the Tyne & Wear Archives and Museum for placing in the South Shields Museum & Art Gallery.” NEWMP included a new photo of the plaque, polished up and attached to a new board.
The museum object number is TWCMS : 2016.203.
