Postcard of 1911 Palmer's Shipyard. Foreground left is the bow of warship HMS Hercules. Then to the right are the electric overhead trolley cranes on elliptical-shaped gantries (installed 1906), arching over the shipbuilding yard which extended from the bank into the tidal inlet (see HWMOT on 1913 Ordnance map). Note the high building on the skyline to the right— this was probably the engineering shed where Joseph LANE was killed in the bombing. See discussion.
